A little bit about Alex…
Former 20th Century Fox Marketing Executive turned Real Estate Entrepreneur, Alex Kirkwood is the Founder and creative force behind boutique hotel brand, Kirkwood Collection. Pioneering the convergence of traditional hotels and modern vacation rental models, Alex capitalizes on the meteoric rise of Airbnb paired with the services and amenities expected of boutique hospitality to deliver a true “home away from home” experience.
When Alex Kirkwood was 14 years old, he lay out a business plan stating that by the time he was 30, his goal was to have worked at a major Hollywood studio before crossing over into hospitality and real estate, which ended up proving accurate. Eclipsing 30, he co-owned a hotel and two vacation-rental properties, and left his job as a Marketing Executive at 20th Century Fox to pursue his lifelong passion for hotel development.
Alex went on to create Kirkwood Collection, a family-owned and operated luxury hotel brand offering a portfolio of intimate boutique hotels in iconic California destinations. Currently in Santa Barbara, Palm Springs, San Luis Obispo and Monterey Bay, six unique properties blend "old world" charm with "new world" accoutrements.
With his immediate family as his founding investors, he proposed that they each raise $10,000 with the intent of acquiring real estate. Kirkwood says, "It has taken far more than $10,000 to arrive at the $20,000,000 in assets under management, but that dinner table meeting was the vision, spark, and engine that landed us here today."
Alex sources and develops projects with value-add conversion potential, focused on hospitality use and oversees all aspects from conception to completion, including design direction, development execution and operational strategies. Drawing from his prior experience of achieving over $2.7 billion in domestic box office success, Alex applies Fortune 100 marketing strategies and creative thinking to the hospitality industry, maximizing comp-set ADR and occupancy.
Kirkwood Collection is currently seeking to expand into additional locations including its legacy roots of Seattle.
