The pandemic had a profound impact on the hospitality industry. Given the recent changes in the industry, it is important to take a pulse of the industry regarding technology use in operations and the guest experience. Stayntouch commissioned a research project conducted by graduate students at the NYU Tisch Center of Hospitality to gather and analyze hotelier sentiments about technology.
Findings from the study include:
- The number of hotels using popular hospitality technologies increased by 31% during the pandemic and is projected to increase by an additional 19% in 2022.
- While 60% of respondents reported using traditional front desk check-in, self-service check-in is on the rise.
- During the pandemic, the contactless guest experience was more accepted by guests. An increase in contactless experiences is a long-term trend that is expected to continue beyond the pandemic.
- The most commonly described issues with technology were the high upfront investment and cost, difficult integration and lack of scalability, and losing the essence of hospitality.
