A little bit about Tony…
After an extensive career with Walgreens, McDonald's and Hyatt Hotels, Tony Spata is now an at-large consultant to the Hospitality, Retail and Food Service industries through his recently-formed company, Spata Global Design Group.
A registered Professional Engineer in multiple states and a LEED AP, Tony actively participates on building code and standards committees, is a frequent speaker at industry events and has authored numerous articles for trade publications. He has presented at LightFair (Hyatt’s Lighting Improvement Initiative), LED Specifier Summit (The Wireless Revolution in Lighting Control) and Connected Tech Expo (The Connected Guestroom).
While Director of Building Systems Design - Americas for Hyatt Hotels, Tony was responsible for overall supervision of the engineering and technology-related aspects of new properties in North, Central & South America and the Caribbean. A primary area of focus during this period was the integration of wireless / electronic lighting controls, LED lighting, “occupant detection” and other concepts into public areas & guestrooms. Hotels where this melding of advanced technologies was applied include: Park Hyatt New York, Andaz Papagayo (Costa Rica), Andaz Maui, Andaz Mayakoba (Mexico), Grand Hyatt Playa Del Carmen (Mexico), Park Hyatt St. Kitts, Grand Hyatt Baha Mar (Bahamas), Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Grand Hyatt Bogota (Colombia), Grand Hyatt San Francisco Airport and Hyatt Centric Montevideo (Uruguay). He was also instrumental in the development of Hyatt's Global Technical Standards that provide information and guidance to external consultants around the world on their specific Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP), Fire & Life Safety, Security and Sustainability requirements.
Tony is additionally recognized as a subject matter expert on topics that include: advanced ventilation strategies for improved indoor environmental quality, holistic integration of building systems with commercial food service operations, and adaptive energy efficiency strategies.
