A little bit about Andrea…
Andrea Dawson Sheehan has been passionate about the Hospitality Industry for 40 years. As Art Director and Founding Principle for Dawson Design Associates, her international award-winning team of talented creatives share her same passion. Working internationally with offices in Seattle and Brighton, UK, Andrea’s goal and mandate is to create powerful installations that provoke conversations and that will ideally lead to awareness and change. Hotels that serve as community hubs that are built around a collection of powerful art with its own message and story to tell. Curated interiors triggering thoughtful and sometimes provocative conversations. As an artist herself, many of DDA’s projects include her own pieces that were designed specifically for each hotel and then folded into the architecture in a choreographed manner. Installations that address and tackle challenging topics including discrimination, global warming, social injustices, and sustainability. Hotel Zena in Washington D.C, part of the Unofficial Z Collection owned by Pebblebrook Hotel Trust, is her latest project. Hotel Zena was a project designed specifically to introduce topics and stories about gender discrimination while at the same time celebrating the accomplishments of women fighting for equal rights. The purpose was to shine a light on stories often ignored, erased or forgotten.
As a female business owner, artist, designer and writer she is always exploring new ways to share her own stories and the powerful stories of others. She is a staunch supporter of women artists and travels the world extensively to discover new artists and authentic new stories to share in the hotel interiors that she has been commissioned to design.
